1899 sketches

Up late and decided to sketch guys from the Boer war in 1899 for no reason. Maybe I should start sketching some Christmas stuff to get into the holiday spirit.... Tomorrow I'll post some Santa and baby Jesus sketches.

Los Alamitos Wiener Races

I did this illustration for the Los Alamitos Wiener Races last summer. They used it on the cover of the racing form. We entered Ellie. the youngest and fastest of our three dachshunds. There were a couple hundred dachshunds there that day. They raced them in between the regular horse races. To make a long story short, I'm at the gate with her and my wife is a couple hundred feet down at the finish line. When bell rang and the gate opend, she ran out ten feet turned around and walked back to me! The funny thing is that you have no idea what your dog is going to do until that moment.

A Rare book from M. Sasek

This book was published in the Uk in 1970. The book itself was commissioned by Lesney Products & Co., Ltd., who owned the Matchbox trademark, and tells the story of how Matchbox models were made in their factory. Sasek picks up on the usual details like transport, local dress etc. and fits it into the story in context of a visit to London. It's forty pages. http://www.miroslavsasek.com/books/mike.html

Childswork Games

This was a Challenging job. I ended up doing 6 games total. I worked with a Child psychologist Lawrence E. Shapiro, Ph.D. He's called Dr. Playwell on the game. He came up with the rough idea. Did I mention rough. And the rest was left up to me and a series editor,Karen Schader. I did everything from the directions, game board, box design, illustrations and even figuring out the bar codes. All in six weeks. This is one those projects that give you grey hairs. In the end, they turned out great and everyone loved them.

Military Series

Here are two of my latest Paintings.

Titanic Crew

This is part of a series of paintings I'm doing of the Titanic. The next one is the band playing on deck. I have lots of fun painting in black & white. For this one I used Winsor Newton-Blue Black Water color.
